PRESS RELEASE: LYSI ACQUIRES AKRABORG

Akraborg is a leading manufacturer of canned liver.
LYSI hf. has signed a share purchase agreement for the majority of shares in Akraborg ehf. Akraborg was established in 1989 and has for over 20 years been a leading manufacturer of high-quality canned cod liver. The sellers are Triton ehf. and Bornholms A/S owned by Christian Sieverts and family, who have operated the company for many years. Akraborg has 50 employees. After the share purchase, Bornholms will continue to own a large part of the company. The change of ownership will not affect the company‘s current business operation. Sales and marketing of Akraborg production of canned cod liver will be handled exclusively by Bornholms and Triton as before.
The share purchase agreement was made with the reservation that it be approved by the relevant government authorities.
LYSI is a leading producer worldwide of cod-liver oil for human consumption. The quality of its products is well known internationally – the company has acquired industry quality certifications for human consumption and pharmaceutical production. The company is the largest and oldest producer of liver oil products for human consumption in Iceland, but the company‘s first factory commenced operation on January 19th, 1938. In recent years the company has focused on expanding its business, but in 2005 and 2012 two new factories began operation. These factories were equipped with the latest technology for liver oil production. The company currently employs 140 individuals. In 2007, LYSI was awarded the Export Prize of the Office of the President of Iceland.
