Recently LYSI began production of a new 5/50EE concentrate, which contains 50% DHA.
In the year 2008 a new production line for omega-3 concentrate was started at LYSI’s facilities. The first product was a 33/22 concentrate containing ≥33% EPA and ≥22% DHA as ethyl esters. The total content of omega-3 is 65% whereas the popular omega-3 18/12 fish oil contains 35%.
Last year another product was added to the line of concentrates. This is a 5/50 concentrate with ≥5% EPA and ≥50% DHA and a total omega-3 content of 65%.
For a long time scientists have been focusing on the beneficial effects of EPA on heart disease and various inflammatory disorders. Consequently, there has been a strong demand for EPA concentrates by the pharmaceutical and health food industries. Recently there has been a dramatic shift of interest towards DHA and its beneficial effects on pregnancy, foetuses, brain and nervous system development and various mental illnesses. Today there is a constantly growing demand for concentrates of the highly important n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly EPA and DHA.
The 5/50 ethyl ester will initially only be sold in bulk but LYSI’s consumer department is working on a new capsule containing the oil.
