LYSI’s primary processing plant in Thorlakshofn certified
Earlier this year it was announced that LYSI received MSC supplier certification (chain of custody) which is needed to maintain the certification of raw material from MSC-certified crude oil manufactures into fully processed and final products.
MSC has certified fishing of cod, haddock, saithe, golden redfish, female lumpfish and herring around Iceland but hitherto LYSI fish liver rendering plant in Thorlakshofn has not been certified. Now this has changed and from now on LYSI is able to offer pure cod liver oil as MSC certified.
Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international certification authority for sustainable fishing. Many big entities in the markets, such as retail chains and producers of consumer products, have started to require that the product they purchase and resell has a sustainability certificate. LYSI already has another sustainability certification which is Friends of the Sea (FOS).
