At its annual meeting on 30 May 2011, the Associated Icelandic Ports (AIP) granted its environmental recognition for the fifth consecutive year, this time to LÝSI, which is situated in the harbour area.
Hjálmar Sveinsson, chairman of the AIP, presented the token of recognition – a beach stone – to LÝSI’S CEO Katrín Pétursdóttir.
When building the new Lýsi plant in 2005, the company took special care, not only in planning the factory building, but also it surroundings. This succeeded so well that most people do not know that it is the largest processing plant of its kind in Iceland.
LÝSI’s environmental policy includes using raw materials from sustainable fish stocks that are recognized as such by the international fishing committee IUCN. Furthermore LÝSI uses the side products from the fish oil production to develop valuable by-products.
