PUFA intake reduces renal function decline in elderly

08.10.2014

Participants with higher plasma omega-3 and omega-6 concentrations showed
lower risk of developing renal insufficiency.

Intake of dietary PUFA may impede a decline in renal function in older

adults. This is the conclusion of chronic kidney disease prospective study
of 931 adults 65 years and older. Those with higher total plasma PUFA,
including omega-3 fatty acids, showed a lower decline in creatinine
clearance over the time.
