In this French study of diabetic women omega-3 supplimentation showed significant reduction in total fat mass and the adiposity diameter compared to the placebo group.
The 27 volunteers all type 2 diabetic women were randomized to take either moderate daily dose of fish oil providing 1.8 g of omega-3 fatty acids or the placebo oil for two months. Those taking the supplements had had lower triacylglycerol levels in the blood and higher HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol). No deterioration of insulin sensitivity was observed in the subjects after 2 months.
