Improved cardiovascular and metabolic health by fish oil supplementation.

13.11.2007

Increasing intake of omega-3 fatty acids could be a useful adjunct to exercise programs aimed at improving body composition and decreasing cardiovascular disease risk. This is the conclusion of scientists from the University of South Australia.

Overweight volunteers with high blood pressure, cholesterol, or triacylglycerols were randomly assigned to one of the following interventions: fish oil, fish oil and exercise, sunflower oil (control), or sunflower oil and exercise.

The study concluded that fish oil supplements and regular exercise both reduce body fat and improve cardiovascular and metabolic health.
